In ENDLESS SUMMER, author Christopher Petersen attempts to address the question, “Where do we go after we die?” In this paranormal family drama, Christopher Petersen gives us much to think about: “Are there spirits in another world? What happens when we die? Can we communicate with spirits?” These thoughts are expressed through the excellent dialogue between his main characters.

Will and Joan are on a New England beach vacation with their children. Joan has a great interest in ghosts, and lo and behold, suddenly paranormal phenomena begin to occur on the beach on a daily basis. This puzzles the family as they meet up with several mystifying ghostly presences.

Petersen has a uniquely humorous writing style that lightens up an otherwise “deathly” serious topic. The interactions between the family members are genuine and sincere. An interesting use of repetition throughout ENDLESS SUMMER is to great effect, although this book made me feel somewhat uncomfortable at times (mild creepy feeling from the subject matter, of course—it is a “ghost story” after all!). The reader understands what the author is leading up to, but the suspense lies in how this masterful storyteller will bring us there, leading me to continue to turn page after page.
